Thank you for translating at Βικιλεξικό! This is an English version for the Greek page Βοήθεια:Μεταφράσεις.

Section: Translations

The section "Translations" appears only in Modern Greek lemmata (el).
It is placed at the end of the lemma. (Possibly, a section "References" ("αναφορές") may follow).

The languages are sorted by their Greek name α...ω (See #List).

Translation tables are in hide/show style. (The reader must click the word Εμφάνιση for "show").

Syntax

We use the Template:t: {{t|<iso code for language>|<word-target>}} (or the Greek {{τ|..}})

the ISO codes for languages, at Language Templates
We write our translation in place of «ΧΧΧ» and delete the "arrows" ()
For example:

All translation words, begin with lowercase letter (except Proper Nouns and all German nouns).
We do not use full stop (period).
We do not add gender abbreviations (as other wiktionaries do), or comments
The international transcriptions (for alphabets other than Latin or Greek), with parameter |tr=
Example at lemma πέντε#Μεταφράσεις:

Specials

Countries

If translations vary in different countries: e.g.:

Language's previous phases or varieties

Are marked under the contemporary forms, e.g.

*: {{enm}} : {{t|...|enm}}

Periphrastic

If the translation is a long phrase, we add: αποδίδεται περιφραστικά without attempting to write long phrases.
If the translation is a short expression, without a lemma either here in Βικιλεξικό, or at mother-language-wikrionary, we need an alternative target. (example: French, le plus grand at lemma μέγιστος). We choose grand as target word

for a different appearance of a link, we add |l=<other appearance> or |show= (l as in link) For example:
{{t|fr|grand|l=le plus grand}} → le plus grand ^(fr) We link to grand ^(fr) (both here at Βικιλεξικό, and the mother-wiktionary)
only for interwiki link to the mother-language, we add |iw=grand
only for link to Βικιλεξικό, we add |link=grand

Feminines, diminutives, augmentatives

A special note is added, to fascilitate editors of languages which do not have a word for some feminine ^(en) or diminutive ^(en) or augmentative ^(en) lemma. The notification is:

{{μτφ-υποκ}} for diminutives
{{μτφ-μεγεθ}} for augmentatives

Surnames

There are no Translations for Greek surnames: (Category:Επώνυμα). Instead, there are Μεταγραφές (Transcriptions).

Multiple senses

In case of multiple senses, the Translation Table may be repeated with different titles.

We add one empty line between the Tables.

Limit of translations

Usually, there are one or two translations. In a few cases, more may be needed, but five translations should not be exceeded. We do not make a list of all synonyms, which can be found at the provided lemma.

If checking is needed

If there is any doubt for the correct sense translated, please add at the end of the Translation Section the template: {{μτφ-κατάταξη}} and move there the translations in question.

Translations of examples

If a non-Greek lemma has examples (with {{eg}}) or a {{quotation}} from some book:
Examples and quotations in languages other than Greek, need a Greek translation.

Examples and quotations are written in italics, under the definition.
The Greek translation follows with upright letters. (If the example is too long, it may be written at a new line)
The lemma word is bold at both texts.
