Τροπικό vs ελλειπτικό[επεξεργασία]

@Sarri.greek Νομίζω ότι το τροπικό ρήμα είναι η καλύτερη μετάφραση. Since this grammar is unique for each language I like how you are using (modal verb) on ought instead of (βοηθητικό) ή (τροπικό). I think it’s better because it allows a Greek speaker to go to the modal verb lemma and learn more about the English-equivalent of το τροπικό ρήμα in Greek. They should realize that a modal verb in English is close to, but not the exact same as, an ελληνικό τροπικό ρήμα. With the translation, we are just trying to find the most similar grammatical concept in each language to make it easier for a foreign speaker to relate it back to how their own language works. But they will always be different since the concepts exist for different languages. Stephilippou (συζήτηση) 20:26, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]

☏ Stephilippou, hello. These are very 'deep waters' βαθιά νερά for me, because I have not studied linguistics. A few points:
The 2 terms I used as Greek translations: as found in Greek bibliography; I didn't know the terms.
There is no 'τροπικό ρήμα' for Greek (πρέπει and μπορώ, I understood, are equivalents). On the other hand auxiliary verb βοηθητικό ρήμα is a common term in Greek: the verbs έχω & είμαι.
The contemporary notions and terms of linguistics in Grammar are now being taught at Δημοτικό (ages 6-12) school.textbook by Warbuton et al. Although simple it is very good. The Gymnasium/Lyceum current Grammar (ages 12-17) is not updated in terms of contemporary terminology schoolbook.
What i have always been missing (at en.wiktioanry too) is 2 or 3 well known Grammars of the English language, for reference.
And: Great work! You may use the {{box}} for your nice examples for Grammar. PS.-please use {{R:OxLD}} if you can: it is simple, clear, no ads, has audio. ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 20:41, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]
PS2 ☏ Stephilippou ελλειπτικός ρήμα (defective) is very different, and common in Greek: any verb that is missing forms. ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 20:44, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]
@Sarri.greek ah ok while modal verbs, although used very often, are very rare. There are only about 9 to 14, depending on how strict the definition is. Τροπικό ρήμα is definitely a better translation then. Stephilippou (συζήτηση) 20:49, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]
@Sarri.greek Δεν ξέρω πως να βάλω μια φωτογραφία εδώ so I uploaded it to imgur: https://imgur.com/a/aIqfmlA. This is how it looks without the {{clear}} στο κινητό. Stephilippou (συζήτηση) 20:54, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]
!hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ☏ Stephilippou thanks for letting me know. We must add something at {{box}} Not clear, because it detaches a very large white space in PCs. Something with text floating around it... ‑‑Sarri.greek  | 20:57, 6 Μαΐου 2023 (UTC)[απάντηση]
